If I went to the Peace Corps, what would I take?
An army duffel, a medium backpack, and a small shoulder bag. (Eeek! Could I really live for 27 months with no luggage?)
My mukluks, brown flipflops, running shoes, black maryjanes with velcro strap, and I'd wear my cowboy boots.
How many pairs of socks? 12?
How much underwear?
I figure I'd wear jeans, and bring some running shorts, cotton pants, windproof pants, set of long underwear, and bring 2 or 3 skirts. I'd bring 4 or 5 tank tops and wear one, 2 or 3 tee shirts, 1 or 2 sweaters, and a hoodie. Would I have room for the suit? Should I bring it? Would pants or skirt be better, or both? What about a dress? And I'd need a "dress up" set of clothes, and a "dirty work" set, too.
Kleenex pocket packets.
Blank journals and notebooks. How many?
2 or 3 big books. Dostoevsky. Zinn's History of the U.S. A poetry compilation. Neruda in Spanish and English.
A sleeping bag and a pillow in a bag. A small blanket? A sleep pad?
A shortwave radio, possibly with alarm.
An eternal flashlight.
A new, good watch.
Letterhead with envelopes.
My DVR, with tons of AAA batteries.
A 35mm camera. Digital or film?
A grooming kit: small/medium-sized box, nail clippers, files, toothbrush, toothpaste, bandaids, first aid cream, hair binders, clips, brush, comb, shampoo, conditioner, soap, washcloths. Towels, small and medium.
A sweater-knitting kit (pattern, needles, yarn) or a crocheting packet (hooks, yarn, patterns for hats?).
Drawing/journaling kit: pencils, sharpener, pens, eraser.
I can't wait to compare this impromptu list with the official one. I wonder what I've forgotten, and what I could forget!
