...And Thus Four Days Pass, Like a Blur

Thursday night's class went well. Very well. I brought 15 items of realia, as it's called in TEFL lingo, and got to teach both a lesson on prepositions and give away all that stuff! The things I brought were: a large, unopened can of oatmeal; a small fish-inside-a-fish statue; a large, unopened jar of honey; two little jars of apple butter that my Grandma and I had made together last Christmas; a big vase; an ornate gold set of salt and pepper shakers; a box of pancake mix, still sealed; a little red beanie toy (it's like a smiling salamander, and one of my students just fell in love with it, she giggled every time she saw it); a candle inside a blue jar with a lid; and a few other trinkets. After the lesson (in which the students had to write sentences in their groups to describe the locations of the objects, then go up in front of the class, read their sentences to a group member, who had to put the things back how they were) I told them, "These are for you to take with you, if you like." And by the end of class, they were gone! Poof! My random things now become mementos of a fun English class. I liked it.

Then, I worked Friday and Saturday and Sunday, pretty much in a long row. I felt really anxious, like I just wanted to be thinking about the Peace Corps and packing for the move, but I had to fulfill my obligations to my employers. Luckily I got a couple of shifts covered this week, giving me a bit more breathing room to do laundry, pack, and (hopefully) move this weekend. We'll see about that!

Tonight I had a great time biking around with a new friend. Her sister is moving to Alaska tomorrow. Like, she's on the plane at 11:00 a.m. It was neat to be able to just hang around and relax; I saw a sneak peek of what's in store for me--no sleeping that last night, packing, repacking, laughing with friends, going with the flow. Because at that point, you're just along for the ride.

Hi Sarah - I just wanted you to know that I found your blog (!)and I have added it to my list of favorites. Not bad for a somewhat technically-challenged aunt.
